This is a gorgeous porcelain teapot that is a conversation piece, an object of art, and functional. I make sure I either pre-warm this with lukewarm tap water first or put a metal spool in the pot before pouring in boiling water to steep my tea. This was recommended by the Lenox rep to avoid a crack from temperature shock for any teapot. This 2.5 quart teapot steeps about 8 cups of tea (10 cups if filled to absolute top). It should be hand washed only and is not freezer, oven, or microwave safe.
According to the insert, "Mrs. Potts Teapot is an original work of art created by Lenox, crafted of ivory porcelain, painted by hand, and accented with gold." Ignore the reverse side of the card that says it is for decorative use only as that is not true and it contradicts the other insert that implies it is a functional item. The tiny piece of "jewelry" hanging form the spout is a nice touch; although there is a warning on it that says it is made of a substance known to cause cancer. This warning is required for the state of California.
