How To Embrace Your Inner Coastal Grandmother

By now you’ve surely heard about the Coastal Grandmother movement. If not, it’s not about age—it’s about a state of mind. Named by TikTok influencer Lex Nicoleta, this breezy, beachy aesthetic borrows elements from coastal living, Nancy Meyers movies, a love of cooking, and cozy-comfy interiors. Think aspirational but easygoing, calming but hardly boring. It’s a classic look that happens to be trending hard right now. And here at Lenox, we channeled our inner Coastal Grandmothers to set the table for carefree days of sun and fun in four easy steps.

01

Begin With Muted Neutrals

When it comes to Coastal Grandmother, the color palette is key. Picture yourself at the beach on a beautiful day: there’s white clouds, sandy beaches, light blue skies, and sun-bleached linens. Now you can get started. Find linens that match the mood, then select your dinnerware. We like the sublime simplicity of Profile or Chelse Muse.

02

Layer In Textures

While the color palette is kept simple, interest is added with woven items. No beach escape is complete without baskets, nets, and more textured touches! To achieve the look on your table, our Wicker Creek collection delivers. Each item looks like a preserved piece of summer, notably serving pieces that look like baskets preserved in porcelain.

03

Play With Patterns

Just a touch is enough—you don’t want to go overboard. Keep it nautical with plaids and stripes or opt for earthier patterns for artisanal flair. We choose Blue Bay for its ocean-borrowed blue hues…and of course its appealing organic lines.

04

Add Some Fun

Life’s a beach, so keep the look sunny with traditional coastal elements like shells, sand, starfish, and modern white dinnerware. You can layer them in with decorative accessories and centerpieces. For an unconventional DIY touch, we think our Tuscany Classics Stackables make a suitable showcase for your creativity (not to mention your sunset cocktail!).
